Bern, Switzerland

Bern, the capital of Switzerland, is worth a stop for any European explorer.

The city’s medieval clock (Zytglogge) with moving puppets is possibly one of the city’s most famous attractions, but the cathedral and bear pit have also put it on the map.

Take the time to wander the Rose Garden (Rosengarten) high above the city before crossing the bridge into old town to walk along one of the longest covered arcades in all of Europe.

Pass the National Parliament building, and even stop on a hot summer’s day to splash in the fountains shooting up from the sidewalk; you could even get a soaking you weren’t planning on it you aren’t careful.

Add a bit of whimsy to your tour by counting the eleven Renaissance statues on top of the fountains around the city before you head off on your next adventure.
