A romantic getaway should let couples enjoy a destination in ways that individuals alone are unable to do. The trip should be full of unique, intimate experiences that leave each person knowing that their life and their travels are richer because they are able to share them with someone they love.

Out of all the possible ways to spend your couples getaway in Sun Valley, these are the experiences that are best when shared.

Romantic Spots

Hot Springs – Buried well past where the blacktop ends, Frenchman’s Bend Hot Springs is a local treasure.  Here, tumbled rock walls reclaim the graduated pools from Warm Springs Creek that rushes by on it way down from the mountains, with its peeks visible through the forest.  Popular with the locals, this is the type of place to venture out to weekday mornings or after a nearby hike.

Sawtooth Forest  – Some of the best trips aren’t charted.  Northeast past Sun Valley Resort, Sun Valley Road heads into the Sawtooth National Forest and winds its way through the mountains.  Parking and hiking the tree lined fields or wandering along Trail Creek is a relaxing and just about totally private way to explore the terrain or enjoy a picnic.

Sunsets from White Clouds – One of the more majestic views in all of Sun Valley, the pro-tee at hole 5 of White Clouds is the best spot to see the last golden arms of sunset stretch across the valley.  For more tips on hiking up to White Clouds, check out our Secrets of Sun Valley.

Romantic Activities

Wine Down Wednesdays – The summer season brings the Sun Valley Botanical Garden to life with its weekly program pairing sculpted gardens with live music and wine.  Guests are welcome to pack a picnic and bring their own wine, or wine is available once you arrive.  With an easygoing mix of musical artists scheduled throughout the season, and the fresh mountain air warming in the sun, this is an intimate way to spend the afternoon.

Pup Walks – Let’s face it, dogs are magical.  Spending time with a happy pup you’ll be infected by their mood, and showing them some loving will bring out the love between each other.  The Animal Shelter of the Wood River Valley has two weekly events running June through September that let guests take a dog out for some exercise and attention, whether it’s for a mountain hike with Hiking Buddies or a stroll around Ketchum with Paws Around Town.  For more information, call the shelter at 208-788-4351

There are several other unique wine paired experiences throughout the season in Sun Valley that are unique ways to enjoy the valley’s different attractions.  Some to keep in mind are the weekly bike and wine pairing Wheels and Wine and local wine tastings at Frenchman’s Gulch Winery.

Romantic Dining

Vintage – This cozy cabin constantly delivers fresh dishes built around the daily availability of local and organic ingredients.  Unlike most modern dining experiences, there is no rush.  The food here is prepared with artistry that takes time and then delivered with the expectation that each bite will be savored.  At only seven tables, this is the most intimate restaurant in Sun Valley and reservations are highly encouraged; during the summer additional tables are available on the patio.

Ketchum Grill – Another staple of Ketchum dining, the Ketchum Grill offers an ever-changing menu featuring local meats and fish prepared in a variety of ways each night. Call ahead and make a reservation for the outdoor covered patio as this is truly the way to enjoy the incredible Sun Valley summers. Make sure to save room for dessert because all their desserts are made in house, including their eclectic sorbet assortment like peach, coconut-lime, blood orange-Campari, and passion fruit.

Trail Creek Cabin – Hands down my favorite place in Sun Valley. This forest cabin setting is a must visit for couples.  Find out what makes this place so special and surprising on our Trail Creek Cabin page.
